I got a job as a waitress at Thackeray's on the Esplanade & John Bonham & Led Zeppelin often came in. They invited me to go to parties with them but I was a naive young girl, with a boyfriend & so always declined. To be honest, at the time I didn't realise who they were....I was a soul music fan 🤣.Annehttps://www.blogger.com/profile/05525980065783839433noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-9095270985170721876.post-61408180268681946002021-08-20T19:48:42.390+00:002021-08-20T19:48:42.390+00:00My sister moved to Jersey in the spring of 1975 to...My sister moved to Jersey in the spring of 1975 to work at the Golden Sands Hotel. She was 19. About 10 years ago we were all sitting on a Caribbean beach and she announced she had met John Bonham in Jersey and drank brandy alexanders in the back of his Rolls Royce. Me andy husband, who is massive Zeppelin fan, were stunned. She couldn't really understand why we were so amazed. She is not someone to make this up. She didn't understand the interest of it. I with other friends from Carlisle, and was living and working in Jersey at that time. In December 1975 we met John Bonham, and John Paul Jones in Lords nightclub, St. Helier. We ended up having a drink with them, and when the club closed we went back to the Atlantic Hotel, where they were staying. They both said they were there for a short time, and were returning to England early Christmas morning. For tax reasons they were only allowed, I think, 66 days a year in the UK. We met up with those two a few more times over the next week or so. John Bonham was getting on really well with one of the guys from Carlisle called Jack O'Hare. One night Bonham, and Jones, did play, supporting another guy at Behan's West Park Club. John told Jack in confidence about the upcoming free concert by all of Led Zeppelin. He was told to keep it a secret because they didn't want the whole Island knowing. That would have meant a ridiculous amount of people turning up. As it happened the secret was well kept as there were only 200 or 300 people in on that Wednesday night. Plant still did have have a full length plaster after the car accident in Greece. They played no Led Zeppelin songs, but as Plant said before they started, they played late 50s, and early 60s numbers that first made them want to play in bands. It was a wonderful experience made even better when Bonham invited Jack, and the rest of us to have a drink at their table after the gig.
I am positive if they have been over for the time stated we would have known about it. Plus if they had places they were already living in, why were they staying at the Atlantic Hotel ? We spent enough time talking to them to have known if they had been there for a while. Bonham, and Jones definitely said they were only there for a few weeks.
It was a most entertaining few nights. Jersey had a very heavy drinking culture, but apart from Jack, we couldn't keep up with them !Anonymoushttps://www.blogger.com/profile/11445935285930052844noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-9095270985170721876.post-16638783993715983792019-02-19T21:59:24.238+00:002019-02-19T21:59:24.238+00:00Thanks for this. Thanks for filling in the timing and some of the details.Unknownhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/13401835687358378388noreply@blogger.com
