Crowds cheering, as the soldiers came
Screaming with joy, as flag was raised
Freedom after five years to proclaim

Bunkers on the coast, and mines in sand
We celebrate that day, every year still
An end to hunger, and a time of hope
And we remember, we always will
How we hung on, made do, did cope
And also today our dear Channel Islands will be free
