Driftwood

This is a poem which I wanted to write the other day that is deliberately ambiguous, and can be read in many different ways. Is it about real world events? Is it about the "interior castle"? Let the reader read from it what they think.

Driftwood

On the sea, this vast empty sea
A sea of sorrows now they say
Struggling to escape, to be free
Exposure brings a judgement day

Cling to wreckage, for dear life
Darkness comes, the day is ended
Only needs: to escape the strife
All lost, nothing can be mended

Drowning, drowning in dark water
The life raft sank, now just wood
Sea of troubles, time of slaughter
Sinking below so misunderstood

Seeking a sea change in weather
Mind at the end of its tether
