There have been complaints in the past about the costs of fuel in Jersey, and the high prices. It cannot all be blamed on freight charges, and it fact the States themselves partly contribute to this situation, as they lease land at La Collette to Shell UK Ltd and Esso Petroleum Co Ltd at a rental value of £250,000 per annum (until 31.01.2016). That is a quarter of a million pounds!
That is good news for the Treasury, but of course the rental is another cost to be passed on to the end customer, and it would be interesting to know how much this adds to the cost of fuel in Jersey, compared with - for example - Guernsey.
