Brief Comment: A Modern Day Hypocrite

Evening Standard:

Commons Leader Jacob Rees-Mogg defended the tough line being taken by No 10 against potential rebels. “It is important for the Government to establish [the confidence of] the House of Commons and that this is essentially a confidence matter,” he told LBC Radio. Education Secretary Gavin Williamson also insisted it would be the “right” decision if the whips decided to axe MPs from the party.

“Anyone who is voting against the Government is in the position where they are voting to undermine the Prime Minister’s negotiating hand and they should think very seriously about that and the consequences,” he told ITV’s Good Morning Britain.

There is no doubt that Jacob Rees-Mogg is a hypocrite. The definition is as follows:

The word hypocrite is rooted in the Greek word hypokrites, which means “stage actor, pretender, dissembler.” So think of a hypocrite as a person who pretends to be a certain way, but really acts and believes the total opposite. Hypocrites usually talk a big talk but fail to follow their own rules — like an outspoken vegetarian who secretly eats bacon.

Presumably this is the same Mr Rees-Mogg who made his way into the ‘No’ lobby to hand his Government a historic 230 vote defeat – the largest in parliamentary history. And who decided to undermine Mrs May's negotiating hand and vote against her government.

Isn't it it a shame that someone so utter shameless should not have been axed back then!
