Sleeping in Light

Sleeping in Light

In one hundred years from now
People will look back, see how
This generation lived, for good
Or evil, to be judged, as would
Always be the way, for the past
To be judged, in its time, at last.

In one thousand years from now
People will look back, and allow
The past to have made mistakes
May future learn for all our sakes
From scattered fragments of today
All that remains in time to stay.

In one million years from now
People will look back and vow
To learn from our rise and fall
To raise their eyes, standing tall
Look out to the stars so bright
And endless vistas in their sight.

In one billion years from now
People will look back, and now
Think of the great journey of life
Of all the glory, yet all the strife
A time for sleeping in the light
Reflect that all passes into night

"In the Year 2525 (Exordium and Terminus)" is a hit song from 1969 by the Lincoln, Nebraska duo Zager & Evans which reached number one on the Billboard Hot 100 for the six weeks commencing July 12. The song was written by Rick Evans in 1964 and originally released on a small regional record label (Truth Records) in 1968. A year later, an Odessa, Texas radio station popularized the disc, which RCA Records quickly picked up for nationwide distribution.
