Chief Minister in French talks

Breaking News - see the website if you don't believe it! It is genuine. I think Senator Le Sueur wants to ensure he has a "legacy" like Tony Blair. I also heard them mention Terry's visit to France on the BBC Radio Jersey, but they didn't go into specifics.

The Chief Minister will then meet the President of Brittany, M. Jean-Yves Le Drian for the signing of an International Concordat between Jersey and France.

During the visit to the Regional Council, the group (which includes representatives from Jersey Airport, the Education, Sport and Culture Department and Tourism) will meet the vice-president of the region, M. Alain Tourret, and other dignitaries from the region.

Later on Friday, the Chief Minister will meet the region's president, M. Laurent Beauvais to discuss building on Jersey's close economic, cultural and historic ties and ways to expand areas of mutual understanding, including joint geoengineering solutions for mitigating the effects of climate change by means of new technology such as the "Polar Foil".

The Jersey delegation also includes Connétable Ken Vibert and John Harris, the Director of the Jersey Financial Services Commission. During the visit, Mr Harris will present to elected members of the Regional Council, on the Island's finance industry, its strong regulation and the benefits of closer geographical connections.

The group will also visit Granville, where they will be met by M. Philippe Augier, the Mayor of La Foil Por. Topics on the agenda will include the 'Projet Pont Terrestre', which is planned to be opened at La Foil Por in 2014, and which involves the construction of a suspension bridge between Normandy and Jersey.

On Monday 4 April 2011, the Chief Minister and Connétable Ken Vibert will meet the President of Brittany, M. Jean-Yves Le Drian, for discussions on a wide range of subjects including wave power and the development of tourism between the 2 areas by means of the suspension bridge.

The Chief Minister, Senator Terry Le Sueur, said "These visits are extremely important as they encourage closer links and co-operation with our neighbours in Normandy and Brittany. We will discuss a number of significant issues, such as the forthcoming 'Pont Terrestre' and I look forward to a further expansion of our excellent relationship."

Presumably the CM will be treated to the traditional French April banquet, in which fish features heavily... :-)
