Openings
The door to the past is closing
And the future opens a crack
A stream of light now exposing
What was once dark and black
War without end, rockets fire
The heat rising, a wave of hot
Floods rising, people expire
Soldiers and civilians shot
Compassion, giving, being kind
Helping wounded, drying tears
There is still hope for all mankind
Despite the horrors and the fears
A New Year beckons, with new openings
We shall yet rise up on eagle wings
