This poem is about the situation in the Ukraine, and the title is taken from a Ukrainian proverb - вогонь починається з іскри
Fire Starts With Sparks
Freedom's candle burns still bright
Despite much repression all about
And who will notice their sad plight
As on the streets, protestors shout
Some locked away in prison cell
For speaking out in truth to power
And beaten, bruised; for this is hell
Hopes once golden now turn sour
Take powder keg and light the fuse
And watch the slowly burning flame
When it explodes, then all will lose
And all will turn away the blame
Now a storm is gathering on the shore
Once more, sleep walking into war
Fire Starts With Sparks
Freedom's candle burns still bright
Despite much repression all about
And who will notice their sad plight
As on the streets, protestors shout
Some locked away in prison cell
For speaking out in truth to power
And beaten, bruised; for this is hell
Hopes once golden now turn sour
Take powder keg and light the fuse
And watch the slowly burning flame
When it explodes, then all will lose
And all will turn away the blame
Now a storm is gathering on the shore
Once more, sleep walking into war
