Sign of the Times

Comet 45P/Honda-Mrkos-Pajdušáková is named after the astronomers who discovered it in 1948 - Minoru Honda, Antonín Mrkos, and Ľudmila Pajdušáková. The comet will be visible to the naked eye as it makes its closest approach to Earth on February 11.

Comets are traditionally seen as signs of ill omen, hence the poem this Saturday

Sign of the Times

The comet, shining in dawn sky
Prophet crying fly, fools, fly
The baleful light, the evil sign
The forebear of a dark design
Signs in the heavens now foretell
That man will bring on earth a hell
To neighbours living side by side
Where there is hatred, none can hide

The comet, shining in dawn sky
As people believe the largest lie
Sucked into time of fear and hate
And now the hour is ever so late
Power is mine, the cruel tyrant said
You poor fools, you made your bed
For you listened to the voice of fear
And now your doom is coming near

The comet, shining in dawn sky
And across the land, weep and cry
A storm comes, the earth laid waste
And time is ticking with such haste
Five minutes short of midnight hour
The card turned over, falling tower
A dark charisma ruling the land
Far outstretched, a tyrant’s hand

The comet, shining in dawn sky
And this will be our funeral pyre
The world will burn, fire and flame
And all our fault, we are to blame
The wind is rising, the storm is here
Weep for lost hope, a final prayer
The world turns cold, catches death
And mankind breaths a final breath
