The ruling cabal have survived. Why don't they ever show any internal dissention? They seem like a many-headed hydra, thinking with one mind, singing from one hymn sheet. All we get is an inability to admit to any mistakes, lessons learnt etc, as if they were infallible. I'd sooner vote for someone who admits to being fallible, to not always getting everything right, and says they have a good record despite this. I'd love to see this 16 page defense to see if there is any evidence of a new kind of government finding its way and learning from its mistakes - and acknowledging that despite mistakes, it is getting better. But it is probably just one of those tedious lists of achievements that politicians churn out at election times.
From the JEP:
THE Council of Ministers have survived a vote of no confidence by an overwhelming majority. The States today rejected the proposition by 41 votes to eight, with two abstentions. The proposal had been brought by Senator Stuart Syvret who suggested that the vast majority of Islanders had 'no confidence, faith or trust' in the Council. But at lunchtime today, after a day's debate, Members made clear their support for Chief Minister Frank Walker and his nine colleagues. On Monday, the council released a 16-page defence, summarising their record of achievement to answer Senator's Syvret's criticism.
Now remember, it is election time this Autumn! Here is the voting, with votes grouped by type.
