Winter Compass

From December 2006 comes this seasonal weather poem to start the New Year, and given the wind and rain and storms, it seems rather appropriate:

Winter Compass

West wind, blowing a gale
Bring sea storms, icy hail
Breakers crashing on rocks
Ships seek refuge in docks.

East wind, with ice hand
Blown from a frozen land
Deep cold, howling moan
Freezes to the very bone.

South wind, a storm force
Prepare defence, reinforce
Against the gusty battering
Listen to the chimney sing

North Wind, cold and clear
Darkness coming, not fear
Leaves fall, bringing death
In her storm tossed breath
