This poem draws on the Jewish idea of the
Shevirat haKeilim.
Silence
There was the void, empty, still
Darkness over the great deep
And an absence, ready to fill
Awakening from ages sleep
The vessels, shining in the night
In the beginning, the first matter
Filled to overflowing with light
Breaking apart, fragments scatter
A silence, then the cosmos sang
Broken shards, scattered light
Exploding outwards in big bang
The universe came into sight
Silence: then the void was broken
A universe by First Word spoken
