Travel on Twitter

The new policy, according to subtitles.: “Travellers must make a declaration before stepping on to an airplane or a FERRET”

Quite frankly there's so much nonsense coming from the Government that I could quite believe it to be true.

Here's a selection of Twitter comments on the "Unsafer Travel" Policy.

Jersey’s borders to reopen this Friday. Arrivals will have choice of a coronavirus test on arrival or 14 days of quarantine. They won’t need to isolate pending test results.

Testing: Average time now 24-48 hours the target is under 12 hours within 4 weeks of the relaxation of travel restrictions.

Agreed, & after talking to @TonyMoretta i have changed my position so long as: - infection rates from inbound jurisdictions are monitored. - if above a certain threshold travel is postponed. - test results are provided within 24/48hrs.

Just to clarify, the govt is not expecting to have a 12 hr turnaround for tests on arriving passengers until August. If travel begins in July, the times will be up to 72 hours.

Up to 72 hours but average far less - generally next day for vast majority. New UK Lab we are using is a lot quicker.

Have we not had time or money to get rapid on island testing in place, or is it a case of not being able to source equipment? GSY: 96 tests in 90 mins

Desperate need to prioritize rapid on island testing at scale for this to work efficiently and effectively. Sending tests to UK for analysis is sub optimal. Rationale behind exemptions for people that have had a test in the 3 days prior to flying is odd. Would Dr Brink allow it? Rapid testing at scale the key to opening borders yet we rely on a 3rd party
Unwillingly, I voted against the travel policy today because I strongly believe islanders want the assurance that arrivals do isolate before their test results. Without this in the policy, I couldn't support it. I hope to goodness that I'm proven wrong.

It really is an issue for many people, sadly I place little faith wrt visitors observing the rules.

Would love to book a trip over to Jersey in September but we don't want to lose our money if one of us tests positive so we have to cancel our holiday

It's also a result of bad communication again. Lack of information prompts a worried population to guess at what is happening. I've lost confidence after we're told that we're in the same COVID situation as Guernsey yet it's not safe to fully open schools, sport, gyms, pubs etc.

So whilst @JerseySport guidelines do not permit 2 lads to put their pads on in a 42sq m dressing room, flights of 150 people at a time can wizz in and out of the island !!
Some extraordinary filibustering by Deputy Montfort Tadier in the States Assembly, tonight, on the borders opening debate including some objectively untrue statements.

He's now approaching one hour and is being pulled up by the Presiding Officer for repetition. I'm not sure what this tactic is setting out to achieve, but it's fascinating to see it play out.

Goodness me ! They are still going in @StatesAssembly ! I wouldn't blame @Scott_Wickenden if he was back on the wine!

“Just get on with it Monty” says Sadie Le SR - whos says politicians don’t know what the public are thinking? I think she’s said what we are all thinking. (Yes I know debate is important but also need to be relevant)

Could the last person out of @StatesAssembly team viewer please switch Deputy Tadier off.

People ask why is there so much disinterest in #Politics in Jersey? On a day of some excellent contributions (from both sides of the argument) such a disappointing end to the “debate” The
@StatesAssembly needs to get back in the Chamber ASAP

Of course it is OK to fly 150 people into Jersey on an EasyJet A319 but its deemed unsafe for the 50 odd @StatesAssembly members to sit in the assembly !

Constable Chris Taylor just said in the States Assembly the reason 37% of people in Jersey back the government, versus 89% in Guernsey, is because of “a very poor press” and its coverage of “an excellent government”. So now you know!!!

Lots of talk of ‘easyJet will never abandon Jersey’ doing the rounds at the mo. Meanwhile, easyJet reportly making a third of its pilots redundant, while shutting down its Stansted, Southend and Newcastle bases.
