15.—Assizes : Thomas Terence Buckley, charged with a grave and criminal assault on another boy, was found guilty on both charges, and the Court ruled that a current probation order be continued and -Mac he pay fines totalling £52 and costs.—Before the Royal Court 18-year-old Ronald Mackinnon, a native of London, who had pleaded guilty to a number of offences recently and been remanded, was sentenced to a term of Borstal training.—Foundation stone laid at • the Soroptimists Club flatlets in Pomona Road, the ceremony being performed by Mrs. G. Malet de Carteret.—At a St. John's assembly, Mr. E. S. Rondel was elected a Centenier of the parish.—Thousands enjoy successful J.M.C. and L.C.C. sand race meeting held at St. Ouen's Bay.

16. — An appeal by Allen Charles Manning against a two months' prison sentence for a motoring offence was allowed at the Royal Court, the case being ordered to be remitted to the Police Court.

17.—Inquest opened and adjourned on the body of Edmundo de Aquiar, the 36-year-old victim of the recent motor cycle fatality at Petit Port, St. Brelade.—At the F.B. Fields the Jersey Athletic Club was defeated by the Royal Naval Athletic Club by 96 points to 60.

18.—Annual St. Helier pilgrimage to the Oratory at Elizabeth Castle, many taking part.

19.—At the first sitting of the Appeal Court this morning the appeal entered by 20-year-old Michael Peter Sampson, of Middlesex, against a three-year prison sentence was allowed ; substituted was a sentence of 18 months •in respect of each of the two offences with which he was charged, the sentences to run concurrently.—Lorry load of 100 bales of straw burnt out in fierce blaze on the Now North Quay.—St. Ouen's parish rate fixed at 2s. 3d., as last year ; at the parish assembly Parish Hall alterations were approved, but the arms question was deferred.—Annual general meeting of the Jersey Football Association.

21.—Inquest held on the body of Mr. Robin Nicolle, the 24-year-old civil servant whose body was found in the sea at Ouaisne, St. Brelade, on Sunday, a verdict being recorded that deceased, a diabetic, was accidentally drowned.—Trinity parish rate increased from 1/5 to 1/6 per quarter ; the assembly voted against employing a qualified accountant.— At the inquest held on the body of Mr. Reginald Foster (Bobbie) Stevens, the 53-year-old victim of last Saturday's fatal road accident on Victoria Avenue, the driver of the car involved, Mr. Clive Alfred Gray was arrested.—St. Martin's parish assembly adopts electric lighting for certain districts of the parish.—Barn roof gutted at Roseland, St. Saviour, when 30 tons of hay were destroyed by fire.

22.—The first Visite Royale of the year held at St. Ouen. — In the National Bouley Bay hill climb Tony Marsh shattered the record of 46.39 secs. by recording a time of 45.13 secs. ; several thousand spectators watched the events.

23.—An appeal by Peter Francis Kane that the sentence of a £30 fine and disqualification for 18 months was excessive was dismissed at the Royal Court today; an 18-year-old youth, Douglas Luce Vibert, on remand for sentence for a criminal assault on his stepfather, was sentenced to a term of Borstal training.

25.—At St. Ouen's Bay today 18-year-old Rodney Sumpter, of Australia, won both the Open Great Britain Championships organized by the Jersey surfboard Club ; between 3,500 and 4,000 watched the surfing.

28.—Judgment reserved by the Royal Court in an appeal brought by the Constable of St. Helier against a decision of the Acting Police Court Magistrate to dismiss a case brought against the proprietor of Radio Cabs and one of his drivers who were accused of stationing their cabs in Gloucester Street in such a way that they contravened the law.—At St. Saviour's parish assembly the rate was increased by 3d. a quarter to 2/9 to enable a deficit of £2,600 to be cleared.

29.—Again the amazing luck of the Jersey Battle of Flower Association was maintained today when an estimated crowd of between 45,000 and 50,000 enjoyed another spectacle of colour, imagination and ingenuity in blustery but sometime bright weather ; complementary to the pageant was the very popular guest star Leslie Crowther, who made the usual tour of the arena with " Miss Jersey Battle of Flowers " and her maids of honour, the Tivoli Gardens Boys' Guard and Band from Copenhagen and, also for the second time, the splendid finale of millions of coloured paper petals floating down over the arena from a helicopter ; chief prize-winners were : Prix d'Honneur, Parish of Grouville ; Prix d'Excellence ¬ Beeches O.B. Association ; Prix de Write, Mrs. A. Romeril, of St. Lawrence ; the usual Floral Ball was held at West Park Pavilion in the evening.

30.—A sentence of nine months' imprisonment with banishment from the Island was imposed on 29-year-old Nicaso Corchuelo, of Spain, by the Royal Court for committing a grave and criminal assault on his wife on June 12. =Before the Royal Court the Hotel Ambassadeur Ltd. and its manager were fined a total of £300 for infractions of the Tourism Law.— Verdict of accidental death recorded at inquest held on the body of Edmunda de Aguiar, the 36-year-old victim of the recent motor cycle fatality at Petit Port, St. Brelade.
