"Biden can't say the Afghans are cowards. He left them behind." RoryStewartUK tells @OliDugmore western leaders have only themselves to blame for the Taliban takeover of Afghanistan. I think Rory is absolutely right in his analysis, and the unfolding tragedy is the reason I wrote this poem.

The Fall of the City

Desperation sweeps the city, Kabul falls
And the Taliban control the land
And thousands flee before their hand
The fighting ends, the resistance stalls

Triumphant Liberation, who now recalls?
Twenty years ago, now lost quicksand
Desperation sweeps the city, Kabul falls

A new Muezzin is heard: Taliban calls
Trepidation, waiting to see a new brand
As women’s freedoms may be banned
Fear stalks the city, behind closed walls
