The War Games

The war in Ukraine is a war of attrition, with Russia gaining ground. What we see Russia doing is doubling down on its invasion with Ukraine running low on weapons and manpower. Vladimir Putin is living up to his first name, being as cruel as Vladimir the Impaler, as he continues his attack battering and murdering civilians. The Geneva Convention laid down Principles of International Humanitarian Law:
  • Distinction: Parties must distinguish between combatants and civilians.
  • Proportionality: Civilian harm must not be excessive in relation to the military gain.
  • Precaution: All feasible precautions must be taken to avoid or minimize civilian harm.
This grim poem looks at the war in Ukraine.

The War Games

Onward Russian soldiers, marching as to war,
As was under Stalin, going on before.
Putin’s propaganda, makes Ukraine the foe
Forward into battle see his ground troops go!

Was not easy triumph, Ukrainians did not flee
Fought hard back against this easy victory
For President Zelesnky, international praise
Ukrainians lift their voices, loud their protest raise.

Like a mighty army, with Putin as their God
Tanks invading borders, there the ground troops trod
Putin calls for victory, mercy knows not he
Civilians murdered, he shows no charity.

Buildings and peoples perish, no sign that war will wane
Rubble where the bombs fall, all that will remain
Fighting hard a just cause, so that Putin not prevail;
But their cause looks hopeless, and they may yet fail

Onward then, the drones, a fighting airborne throng
Putin still is hoping he will sing a triumph song.
Tyrant without compassion, like an evil King
As come more explosions and the missiles sing
