1.—Four young men, charged with committing a grave and criminal assault on a taxi driver in Gloucester Street on August 28, pleaded not guilty at the Royal Court today and were sent for trial before the Inferior Number of the Court.—The President of the R.I.B.A., Lord Esher, arrives in the Island to fulfil a number of engagements, including the opening at the Town Hall of a special exhibition of local architects' work.—St. Ouen's, St. Mary's and St. Peter's autumn show of cattle held at Brampton Farm, St. Ouen.—Michael Miles, noted quizmaster of ITV's " Take Your Pick " arrives on short visit.
2.—At a special sitting of the Police Court today the 22-year-old brother of Joy Elizabeth Norton, the 11-year-old girl whose mutilated body was found in a field at St. Lawrence three weeks ago, was charged with her murder ; the sitting lasted only 90 seconds and accused was remanded for a week ; a crowd of 800, including many women, had gathered outside the Court since 9 a.m.—Mr. Basil Reuben Nicholas Taylor, a 39-year-old painter, believed to have been drowned while fishing at Grosnez, St. Ouen ; an intensive search was organized but without result
3.—St. Helier Yacht Club stage annual Around Jersey Race, 1.6 boats taking part.
5.—An appeal brought by Mr. P. T. Bastiok, a coach driver, against his conviction of driving without due care and attention, for which he was fined £10 at the Police Court, was dismissed by the Royal Court today.. In brilliant weather the Football Association team of football stars fly in for tomorrow's match against the Jersey Football Association, which is celebrating its diamond jubilee ; • a banquet was held in the evening at the Hotel de France at which 160 persons attended.—The fourth and final sale of the McClean collection was held at Langlois's sale room today when 187 lots realized a total of £23,884.—St. John and St. Lawrence combined cattle show held at Midlands, St. Lawrence.
6.—For the first time in 20 years the position of Viscount was filled this morning when at a special sitting of the Full Court Mr. Herbert Vyvian Benest (Sergent de Justise) was sworn in ; His Excellency and Lady Villiers attended the ceremony.—Combined Trinity and St, Martin cattle show held at La Maison Maret, Trinity.—A specially Chartered plane flies in the 65 members of the Ballet Rambert from London for a three-day engagement at The Forum.
7.—The J.F.A. diamond jubilee match at Springfield this evening, in which a side of young F.A. stars opposed an Island XI, resulted in a 10-0 defeat for the local side ; in perfect weather conditions a near 3,500 attendance saw a sparkling display given by the visitors.—The October sitting of the Assise d'Heritage held at the Royal Court this morning, His Excellency the Lieut.-Governor attending.—St. Brelade's autumn cattle show held at Sands Farm, Don Bridge.

9.—Jersey Swimming Club hold centenary dinner at the Hotel de France, His Excellency the Lieut. Governor and the Bailiff being among the distinguished guests.
11.—Appeals by a husband and wife, Mr. and Mrs. P. P. Dooley, against sentences imposed on them by the Inferior Number of the Royal Court on September 10 for infractions of the Housing (Jersey) Law 1948, when they were fined a total of £350 with 30 guineas costs were dismissed by the Full Court today.—Jersey Youth Movement third annual conference held at the Old Court House Hotel, Gorey.
12.—An intruder broke into the Wimpy Bar, Grosvenor Street early yesterday morning, ripped off the back of the safe and got away with £196.
14.—Two inquests held at the General Hospital ; the first on the body of four-month-old Kevin Patrick Curran, found dead in his carry-cot in an attic bedroom at 15 Belmont Road, a verdict of accidental suffocation being returned ; the second on the body of 65-year-old Miss Elsie Skelton, found dead in the bedsitting room she occupied at Holme, Bel Royal, a verdict in accordance with the findings of the Consultant Pathologist being recorded.—St. Helier municipal dinner held at Hotel Savoy, three senior members of the States being guests of honour.
16.—At the annual meeting of the Jersey Milk Marketing Board it was stated that the net sum paid to milk producers during the financial year under review was £703,807, about £38.290 more than last year and the highest on record
18.--An appeal by 37-year-old St. Helier-born Leslie Kenneth de Rue against his conviction at the July Assizes of committing an indecent assault. on a young Scots girl on April 9 was dismissed by the Court of Appeal today.
