Situated almost on the corner of St. Saviour's Road and La Motte Street is Staples the jewellers, where Tom Simmons and his son John are in the jewellery and watch business.
Tom has been in the trade for over 40 years, most of this time having been spent in the West End of London and 25 years at Garrards. Whilst he was there he repaired most of the watches belong ing to the Royal family as well as such people as Charles Clore. He has been living in Jersey for five years and he has become an expert in catering for local and visitors' tastes—the range of watches available here is from four to two hundred and fifty guineas.
"I think the ordinary modern watch is almost indestructible," he told TOPIC. "By buying direct from the factory I am able to offer a watch for £4 which is a very good one indeed?'
