Written as we approach the death of my dear Annie on 13th October 2009. A trip to the steam museum the other day brought back memories, and the trains which we used to enjoy riding at the Steam Fayres, now sadly also a memory of a lovely past.
An Echo of the Train
A trip to nostalgia and sadness past
Glory days when the train departs
Until one day, final whistle at last
Memory of love lost, of lonelyhearts
Streaming round the well worn track
Sitting in the carriages, watch the view
Wheels on the rails, go clack, clack, clack
Such were days of joy, of me and you
A stranger train had left one black day
Into a tunnel, darkness hides the light
And my dear, no words enough to say
Death’s one way journey into night
Now an echo of a train haunts me still
Nostalgia can sometimes be a bitter pill
